| Under the Nile | | Janice Masoud founded Under the Nile in 1998 after she noticed that her children started developing sensitivities to conventional cotton clothing. After much research on conventional cotton, Janice learned that many chemicals--from pesticides to fertilizers to toxic dyes--are present in conventional cotton clothing, affecting the health and wellbeing of the wearer.
Dismayed by the lack of available organic baby clothing options, Janice and her husband Mohammed formed a partnership with SEKEM Initiative Farm, a model community for biodynamic agriculture in Egypt, and formed Under the Nile. Ten years later, Janice continues to design organic baby clothes, toys, and bedding from her base in California, while her partners in Egypt bring the cotton from the biodynamic fields and sew them into Under the Nile's beautiful product line.
