Smiling Planet's dinnerware is independently tested to ensure it contains no BPA, no lead, no phthalates, and non-toxic inks. Each bowl is made from medical grade polypropylene plastic. Smiling Planet purchases unused plastic scraps generated by the manufacturing process at a medical parts factory. These scraps are recycled into the new material for their bowls. Medical grade polypropylene exceeds the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) standards for food contact, and Smiling Planet knows of no safer plastic.

For Smiling Planet founder Olivia Haviland d'Albis, fine china is in her blood. Her family, the Havilands, make the world famous Haviland China in Limoges, France. Together with her American husband Freddy, Olivia combined her expertise in china, flair for design, and passion for green living to create what Olivia likes to call her line of "fine non China". The result of Olivia and Freddy's vision is a line of earth friendly, non-toxic dinnerware for children that not only keeps them safe and healthy, but also inspires an appreciation of the natural world and encourages a peaceful, reflective world view.
We were thrilled beyond belief to meet Olivia and Freddy in New York City recently. Their line of BPA-free dinnerware was what we've been looking for since UrthChild was born. And we couldn't be happier with the results. We love this line and know you and your children will, too.
